Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, an outspoken Member of Parliament for Effiduase/Asokore of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has accused President Akufo-Addo, the party's General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, and the outgoing Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, of orchestrating the removal of Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu as Majority Leader.
"I thought Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu suffered a coup d'état at the hands of Afenyo-Markin, Kodua, and President Akufo-Addo, and this was the time to correct it," he claimed in a post on an NPP Members of Parliament WhatsApp page called 'Official MPs and PCs Platform'.
The member accused the party's leadership of disregarding the Ashanti Region's concerns.
As an illustration of the purported disregard for the Ashanti Region's interests, Dr. Afriye cited a National Council meeting, asserting that the region's contributions were written off as unimportant. Additionally, he claimed that members from the Greater Accra Region were given disproportionately more leadership posts than those from the Ashanti Region.
"They told us yesterday at the National Council that our numbers are irrelevant. However, the agenda of those seeking deputy roles was pushed. Jerry Ahmed, a newcomer, was appointed as the 2nd Deputy Whip after the Greater Accra faction, led by Lord Commey and Prince, their organizer, yelled, "Greater Accra, Greater Accra." Mavis Nkansah Boadu, why not? That was our proper standing.
"We shall live to regret this sellout and needless trade-off," said the politician-turned-medical practitioner. He cautioned that there will be serious consequences for the party's activities.
Dr. Afriye voiced his concern over what he called the "Akyem Mafias" and what he saw as animosity toward the Ashanti Region by outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
What precisely are the Ashanti Region's transgressions in the view of the Akyem mafia and Akufo-Addo? Dr. Afriye bemoaned, "This is complete suppression of Ashanti."
He emphasized that as a caucus, we must never again compromise our legitimate position in order to get better deals.
He urged the area to seize more possibilities and reject mediocrity, stressing the value of ambition and calculated actions to enhance business and development prospects.

"We've already endured enough hardship—bad development, faltering companies, and more. He came to the conclusion, "We shouldn't have sold our worth for such a lesser deal."
