President-elect John Dramani Mahama has arrived at the Jubilee House to officially kick off Ghana's government transition process following his victory in the 2024 presidential election. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo extended an invitation to the transition meeting shortly after the Electoral Commission revealed the election results.
The gathering marks the beginning of the official transfer of power to the new administration. President Akufo-Addo welcomed Mr. Mahama and his vice president-elect, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and heartily congratulated them on their victory. "Congratulations, Mr President. "It was a well-fought fight," he said to Mr. Mahama.
Turning to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, he said, "Historic lady, congratulations." "Well done," she said, congratulating herself on becoming Ghana's first female vice president-elect. In accordance with the Presidential (Transition) Act of 2012 (Act 845), Mr. Mahama has announced the formation of a ten-member transition committee to aid the handover process.
The team will collaborate closely with the outgoing administration to achieve a smooth and effective transition of responsibilities. The swearing-in ceremony for President-elect Mahama is set on January 7, 2025. His election victory was decisive, with 56.55% of all legitimate ballots, according to the Electoral Commission.
His closest challenger, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party, received 41.61%. This transition demonstrates Ghana's dedication to democracy and paves the way for the next chapter under John Dramani Mahama's leadership.
