The Talensi Rock Union has donated books in eight subjects to six best performing schools in the Talensi District to enhance the performance of BECE candidates in the District after carefully monitoring the annual performance of BECE candidates in the past.
The district scored 45.6% in 2020 BECE and since then the district has not received the results for 2021 and 2022 to enable the district education directorate to analyze the performance of the candidates who wrote the exams and the way forward.
The Talensi district director of education, Christiana Azure Awinloya is appealing to the Ghana Education service directorate to as matter of urgency release the Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE results in time for the district to analyse and monitor the performance of the various schools including students and teachers.
She made this known when the Talensi Rock Union presented assorted books to six best performing schools in the district to enhance quality education among pupils and students in the district.
" We made a request for the BECE results for this year which we normally analyse and hold our school performance appraisal meeting and has not come. The District Chief Executive has always been on my neck demanding the results. Without the results, we can not put our teachers to task to be able to help the children to perform better”.
" The delay of the release of the exams result to the district is affecting the performance of teachers at the BECE level. Am urging the teachers to live up to the task by ensuring that teachers are regular and punctual and make effective good use of the books in order to yield positive results".
The Talensi Rock Union, a civil society organisation that is into the socio-economic development of Talensi traditional area has piloted a to improve on the performance students at the BECE level in Talensi with assorted books in eight subject for best performing six schools in the district.
Talensi Rock Union is made up of Talensis living everywhere in the world. One of the duties of the union is to support development in Talensi in the area of Health, Education and things that will make the people of Talensi better.
The leader of the project, Kenneth Korah cautioned beneficiary schools to improve on their academic performance after receiving the books to help raise more funds to support more schools in the district.
" To those who are benefiting from this donation, you do us a favour, your BECE results has to improve, we are going to use that to raise more money. If the results doesn't improve from your schools, we can not make a case for people to contribute more and for other schools to benefit”.
"So am appealing to you, am only begging you, those managing those schools, try and help us to help you. If your results improve, we are going to say we told you if you provide books, things will change and people will contribute more, some individuals contribute as much as GHC 6,000, GHC 1000, GHC 2000. We have contributions from some of our people living in Canada, USA, UK. They are all interested in the district but they are not too sure that if they will make a contribution, it will go too far. So am appealing to you to make good use of the books, let it make some immediate impact and we can use that to raise more money to come and help more of the schools".
The National chairman of Talensi Rock union, Albert Naabil, reminded teachers and PTA on the responsibilities in making sure the students perform well at the BECE level.
In 2020 BECE, the Talensi district registered 1624 candidates and 1579 wrote the exams. Only one candidate score aggregate 6 to 9 and 859 score aggregate 37 and above.
