GNAT to Increase Cancer Fund from 2Cedis to 5Cedis and Some Resolutions from GNAT Delegates Conference
The “Ghana National Association of Teachers” following its just ended conference make some important resolutions to benefit its members. Among the resolutions made is the increase in GNAT Cancer Fund Dues from 2cedis to 5cedis.
According to GNAT, the treatment of other life threatening diseases such as Kidney and Hepatitis B will be added, and extended to cover retired GNAT members. This is the reason for the increment.
Other Resolutions
It was resolved That GNAT will work hand in hand with the GES and NaCCA, to expedite action on the provision of text books and all other logistics needed by the schools to enhance the smooth implementation of the Standard Based Curriculum.

GNAT resolved that they shall impress upon GES to grant study leave with pay to qualified teachers pursuing second degrees in Education related courses and be put on the next rank, upon successful completion.
Again GNAT will advocate for Government to implement the policy of preferential treatment to teachers in deprived areas, when granting study leave with pay. GNAT will impress upon the GES to pay T&T/transfer grants to deserving teachers, promptly.
Soci-economic, Political and Gender Issues
On the above, GNAT resolve that they will advocate for Government to provide scholarship for, at least, a ward of every teacher at the tertiary level.
GNAT said it will ensure that the GES provides accommodation for teachers in underserved communities.
The union also resolved that they will collaborate with GES to ensure that culprits who attack teachers are dealt with expeditiously, to serve as deterrent to others.
Salaries and Conditions of Service
It was resolved that GNAT should collaborate with the GES to ensure that such legitimate entitlement as responsibility allowance, vehicle maintenance allowance, transfer grant, the legacy areas, and all others, are paid promptly.
Lastly the Union resolved GNAT should ensure that a committee is put in place by the employer and organized labour, to address the challenges associated with the Tier-2, pension.
