A Belgian goalkeeper has died after he collapsed on the field just seconds after saving a penalty during a match on Saturday.
Arne Espeel, 25, was representing Winkel Sport B in the second provincial division of West Brabant in Belgium.
The young shot stopper is believed to have immediately dropped to the ground after saving a penalty shot, according to Belgian media reports.
“The ball was still in play. Our goalkeeper got up as fast as possible to receive the ball, but then he fell,” team assistant Stefaan Dewerchin said, Daily Mail reported.
“We wish Arne's family and friends our sincere deepest sympathy in this great loss.”
