Hon. Robert Wisdom Cudjoe Joins Thousands in Prestea Protest Over Neglected Roads

Residents of Bogoso and Prestea, two vibrant towns in the western region, united in a powerful demonstration yesterday to demand action over the deplorable road that connects their communities. The poor road conditions have not only inconvenienced locals but have also hindered economic activities in the area. Despite promises from government officials, including the Minister of Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah, the situation remains dire, leaving residents frustrated and disillusioned.

The demonstration, which drew thousands of residents, was a display of unity and shared frustration. Among those present was the Member of Parliament for the area, the Honourable Robert Wisdom Cudjoe, who stood in solidarity with his constituents. The presence of their elected representative underscored the urgency and importance of the issue at hand.

In a recent session of Parliament, Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah, the Minister of Roads and Highways, assured the nation that significant progress had been made in fixing the deteriorating road. Unfortunately, the reality on the ground contradicts his statement. Checks conducted after his pronouncement revealed that the road remains in a state of disrepair, causing immense hardship to the people of Bogoso and Prestea.

The poor condition of the road has far-reaching consequences for the residents of these towns. Travel between Bogoso and Prestea, which should be a straightforward journey, has turned into a perilous adventure. The constant wear and tear on vehicles has resulted in costly repairs for residents, and transportation costs have surged as a result.

Moreover, businesses in the area have been adversely affected. Farmers struggle to transport their produce to marketplaces, while traders find it increasingly difficult to bring goods to towns. This has a direct impact on the livelihoods of the people and the economic development of the region.

The demonstration in Prestea was not just an expression of frustration but a plea for immediate action. Residents demand that the government take concrete steps to rehabilitate the road promptly. The broken promises and false assurances have left them with little patience for further delays.

It is imperative for the government to prioritise the rehabilitation of the road connecting Bogoso and Prestea. The people of these towns have endured years of neglect, and their call for improved infrastructure is both reasonable and urgent. Addressing this issue will not only enhance the daily lives of the residents but also promote economic growth in the region.

The demonstration in Prestea serves as a poignant reminder that the promises made by government officials must be followed by tangible actions. Residents of Bogoso and Prestea have shown unwavering determination in their quest for better roads, and their voices deserve to be heard. It is now incumbent upon the government to turn their promises into reality, providing these communities with the essential road infrastructure they so desperately need and deserve.
