Honesty is one of the most important virtues in Ghanaian culture and is seen as a key to success. However, there seems to be a disconnect between traditional values and modern-day reality. A recent study by GeoPoll found that Ghanaians believe that politicians are the biggest liars in the country.
Ghana’s Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is considered the biggest liar in Ghana. Mahamudu Bawumia is a popular Ghanaian economist, banker, and current Vice President of Ghana. He assumed office on 7 January 2017. This is the search result when anyone googles about the biggest liar in Ghana. His political games with regards to fulfilling a campaign promise are probably why he’s ranked as the biggest liar.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, testified in front of a Judiciary Committee in Washington DC. During the questioning, he was asked about the company’s search results.
According to him;
“Anytime you type in a keyword, as Google we have gone out and crawled and stored copies of billions of Websites pages in our index. And we take the keyword and match it against their pages and rank them based on over 200 signals – things like relevance, freshness, popularity, how other people are using it.
‘And based on that, at any given time, we try to rank and find the best search results for that query. And then evaluate it to objective guideline. And that how we make sure the process is working. This is working at scale and we don’t manually intervene on any particular search result”
So from the above result, one can easily concur that Google doesn’t identify Bawumia as the biggest liar in Ghana, However, Bawumia’s image might have appeared because many Ghanaians have used the word or term with his name and Images.
