Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Onua Maakye host, shared his opinion that the Akufo-Addo government will continue to face difficulties because the supposed wise members within the NPP (New Patriotic Party) are being overlooked. He referred to these individuals as the "Kufuor boys," and noted that their silence is one of the reasons for the government's poor performance.
Captain Smart emphasized that these wise men play a crucial role as the government's "technical department" and should not be marginalized or pushed aside. He expressed his concern following the perceived lackluster performance of the New Patriotic Party in the recent by-election held in Kumawu, located in the Ashanti region.
Captain Smart highlighted the small difference in the number of votes received by the late Member of Parliament, Philip Basoah, and the winner of the by-election, Yaw Anim. The mere 304-vote difference, in his view, reflects a failure on the part of the ruling government.
Despite the presence of high-ranking NPP officials, including the President, Vice President, Chief of Staff, and other party members during the Kumawu visit, Captain Smart claimed that the party failed to secure the usual additional 1,000 votes they typically receive in such by-elections. He attributed this breakdown to the NPP's "pride and ego."
Furthermore, Captain Smart questioned the party's celebration and raised the point that Dan Botwe, a prominent figure within the party, was absent during the Kumawu visit. This prompted him to ask where Botwe was when the party was campaigning in Kumawu.
In conclusion, Captain Smart expressed his concern about the NPP's performance in the by-election and highlighted the importance of the party's wise members, whom he believes should not be ignored or relegated to the sidelines. He criticized the party's apparent breakdown, attributed it to pride and ego, and questioned the reasons behind their celebratory statements.
