The National Identification Authority (NIA) has commenced the registration of Ghana Cards for citizens aged 15 and above from August 28, 2023 at no cost. The registration is expected to last for a period of six months.
The Ghana Card is a national identification card that serves as a proof of identity and citizenship for Ghanaians. It is also a key enabler for the implementation of the government's digitalization agenda.
The NIA has set up registration centers across the country to facilitate the registration process. Citizens who are interested in registering for the Ghana Card can visit any of the registration centers with the following documents:
A valid passport
A valid driver's license
A valid birth certificate
A valid voter's ID card
A valid national health insurance card
A valid student ID card
A valid employment ID card
A valid traditional ruler's ID card
A valid religious leader's ID card
A valid association ID card
A valid media ID card
A valid professional ID card
A valid refugee ID card
A valid asylum seeker ID card
The registration process is free of charge. Citizens who are registered for the Ghana Card will be issued with a card that will be valid for ten years.
The commencement of the Ghana Card registration for citizens aged 15 and above is a major milestone in the government's efforts to digitize the country. The Ghana Card will play a key role in the implementation of the government's digitalization agenda and will also help to improve the efficiency of government services.
