Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu has called on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to fully disclose the amount of money seized from former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah.
Kpebu made the call in a statement on Tuesday, September 6, 2023. He said that the OSP's failure to disclose the amount of money seized from Dapaah is undermining the fight against corruption.
"The OSP must disclose the total amount of money seized from Cecilia Dapaah," Kpebu said. "This is necessary to energize the fight against corruption and to ensure that the public is kept informed about the progress of the investigation."
Kpebu also said that the OSP should be transparent about its investigations and should not withhold information from the public. He said that the public has a right to know how the OSP is spending its resources and how it is using its powers to fight corruption.
The OSP has not yet responded to Kpebu's call.
The seizure of money from Dapaah is part of an investigation into allegations of corruption in the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources. Dapaah has denied any wrongdoing.
The OSP is a relatively new institution that was created in 2018 to investigate and prosecute corruption cases. The OSP has been criticized for its slow pace of investigations and for its lack of transparency.
Kpebu's call for the OSP to disclose the amount of money seized from Dapaah is a sign of the growing public pressure on the OSP to be more transparent and accountable.
