During his visit to Accra, the English actor met President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House.
The former member of the National Youth Theatre of London announced that his first film will be released in Ghana in December 2023.
Idris Elba, a talented singer, actor and director with roots in Ghana and Sierra Leone, believes the time is right to give back to his homeland.
He felt that while Africa had a wealth of film talent, it lacked a first-class studio infrastructure.
In a meeting with President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House in Accra, Idris revealed that he and his group of investors have been working for the past four years to develop Ghana as a hub for the film industry. He challenged the President to execute a plan that will take Ghana to the top of the global film industry.
According to President Akufo-Addo, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has begun to develop a strategy to make Ghana the first choice for investors in the global film industry.
Idris has starred in a number of films and television shows, including Stringer Bell in HBO's The Wire and DCI John Luther in BBC One's Luther.
