A Ghanaian man named Philip Doodoo has been jailed in the UK after assaulting two doctors and a police officer.

Philip Doodoo, a homeless Ghanaian man living in the UK, has been jailed after assaulting two doctors and a police officer at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry.

Doodoo, from Letterkenny, was sentenced to two months in jail after pleading guilty to three counts of assault and a further charge of disorderly behaviour and criminal damage.

The prosecution claimed that on 29 January Doodoo was hostile in the Accident and Emergency (A&E) department at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry, Northern Ireland, prompting police to be called to the scene.

According to reports, he was being "verbally hostile" and loitering in a place where he had been told not to be.

What are you going to do about it, the Ghanaian shouted as he pushed a doctor with his chest.

Next, Doodoo kicked a medical crash cart, which was reportedly a "critical piece of equipment".

When police tried to restrain him, he called them "muppets" and then lunged at an officer with his shoulder!

Doodoo then lunged at another member of the medical team, leaving her in fear for her life.

Philip Doodoo had a 'mental health crisis' on the day of the incident, according to his lawyer Seamus Quigley.

He claimed that Doodoo was aware that the courts would not accept "hospitals being turned into war zones" and that Doodoo was remorseful and sorry for his actions.

District Judge Barney McElholm sentenced the defendant to two months in prison and said he hoped the offender had learned his lesson.
