Fri, 3 Mar 2023 Source: iNews

Yesterday, the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) and the American Embassy in Ghana launched the recruiting initiative for the 2023 SelectUSA Summit.

To promote the advantages of investing in the US, the event drew participants from a variety of economic sectors in Ghana.

For the tenth year in a row, the United States was ranked as the top international location for future foreign direct investment in the Kearney Global Business Policy Council's 2022 report.

"Our business ties with Ghana are strengthening. Expanding bilateral investment, not only into Ghana but also into the United States, is one of our top priorities, said Stephanie Hutchison, head of the U.S. Embassy's economic section, at the event.

Key locally sourced goods can be exported more frequently from Ghana to the US thanks to Ghanaian investments. She continued, "Ghanaian companies can diversify the products and services they offer and build their brand internationally by investing in the United States."

In her remarks, Hutchison emphasised the United States' strong innovation culture, as well as its business climate, labour force, diversity of industries, and rewarding domestic consumer market. With a total investment of $5 trillion by the end of 2021, the United States will continue to be the largest recipient of inward foreign direct investment in the world.

The American Chamber of Commerce, the Department of Commerce's SelectUSA programme, the U.S. Embassy, and the Ghanaian businesses Ekumfi Fruits and Anning Bonsu Enterprises all spoke at the event.

Acting Commercial Counselor Laurie Kelleher gave an overview of the U.S. Government resources available to investors, highlighting the specific ways the SelectUSA Program can help potential investors find partners and opportunities, locate local and state resources, and navigate company formation and other investment procedures. She emphasised the advantages of going to the SelectUSA Investment Summit, which is the most important annual gathering aimed at promoting investment in the United States. Attendees of SelectUSA have access to more than 100 sessions with C-suite executives, cabinet members, U.S. governors, and U.S. economic development organisations all gathered in one place. Three thousand people attended the largest SelectUSA Summit to date in 2022, which drew 1,400 companies from 70 different nations.

Dr. Obafemi Elegbede from SelectUSA gave a presentation on how to choose a location for a business, file for company registration, and open a bank account in the US. Several local speakers discussed their experiences in the American market, including the country's strong preference for Ghana and Ghanaian goods as well as related fields like tourism, software and IT services, energy, logistics, and food processing.

The Ghanaian delegation to the SelectUSA Summit, which will take place in Washington, DC, from May 1–4, 2023, will be led by the Commercial Section of the U.S. Embassy.
