The Ahafo regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stated that defending former sanitation minister Cecelia Dapaah would make the party appear like "fools."
Mr. Kwabena Owusu Sekyere stated in an interview on the Wontumi Morning Show that the government is already struggling to convince the public to save with banks, so it would be foolish to defend a senior member of the party who was discovered keeping large sums of money at home.
"Defending Cecil would portray us as morons. As a sector minister, she is unable to instruct the business sector to save at the bank because she is keeping that money at home. Mr. Owusu Sekyere stated, "This is not a good thing, and no party member should ever defend it; therefore, the President has fired her from her position."
The singular act of Madam Cecilia Dapaah has undermined the savings culture that the government is working so hard to instill in Ghanaians, he continued.
"You have $1,000,000 in your bed for a year? Those serving in this government under President Akufo-Addo should be aware that the party is the source of government; otherwise, their actions would have an effect on the party itself... If you had € 300,000 and € 1 million in your room as a minister, someone would inquire about your salary. It must be condemned, he stated emphatically.
