Sammi Awuku, the former National Youth Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has disclosed that although he is a key member of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's campaign to become the NPP's flagbearer, he is not the campaign manager per se.
He emphasised that he coordinates and manages key areas of the campaign but is not inherently the campaign's leader.
He noted that the Vice President's campaign machinery lacks a formal structure, but that everyone in it understands their function and acts accordingly to get things done for the Vice President.
"My support for the Vice President is not a secret. I am among those who chose his nomination documents on his behalf. I play a crucial role in his campaign. I am assisting with the campaign's coordination. I am in charge of important aspects of the campaign...We do not have a formal organisational structure. This allowed me to be completely sincere.
Sammi Awuku believes that the Vice President is the only one of the party's ten flagbearer candidates capable of winning the 2024 General Elections (thereby breaking the eight-year cycle in which the party in power loses to the opposition after eight years in power).
He reaffirmed that Dr. Bawumia has the support of the delegates and will emerge as the presidential candidate following the National Delegates Conference later this year.
