On Monday, a group of African researchers and specialists in climate change urged the adoption of innovation and targeted investments to promote the expansion of the cattle subsector in arid areas.
The Horn of Africa and the Sahel region's lives could be drastically changed by the industry, according to Appolinaire Djikeng, director general of Nairobi's International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI).
Djikeng stated at a forum in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, that "through cooperative efforts, technological innovation, and responsible practises, we can chart a path towards a resilient and sustainable future, where livestock remains a cornerstone of both our heritage and our progress."
Djikeng emphasised that the livestock sub-sector can assist African countries in feeding their populations through scaled-up investments and innovation.
