Dagbon mourns as fifth most powerful Chief passes on

The Paramount Chief of the Tong Traditional Area of Dagbon in the Northern Region has passed on.

Tong lana Andani Yakubu Wumbenkpang is reported to have died on Thursday and has already been laid to rest in accordance with Dagbon and Islamic customs.

Naa Andani Yakubu Wumbenkpang was one of the leading members of the Andani Royal Family of Dagbon and was one of the key traditional rulers from Dagbon who spearheaded the Dagbon Peace Process, which saw the performance of the funerals of the two late Kings of Dagbon, Ya Naa Mahamadu Abdulai and Ya Naa Yakubu Andani in December 2019 and January 2020 respectively.

He was also a member of the Dagbon Constitutional Review Committee set up by Ndan Ya-Na Abukari II to review the 1930 Constitution of the Dagbon Kingdom.

His chieftaincy title, according to the 1930 Constitution of Dagbon is the fifth most powerful chieftaincy in Dagbon after the King, behind only the Karaga, Savelugu, Mion and Kworli skins.

He is said to have been in his mid 80s.

Tong lana Andani Yakubu Wumbenkpang was a retired educationist and the son of the late Yoo Naa Yakubu Wumbenkpang. I.
