An Aide to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeini has taken swipe at the Eastern Regional Campaign Director for Alan Kyeremanten for urging New Patriotic Party delegates not to vote the Vice President at the party’s presidential primary because he is a Muslim.

Mr Khomeini in a rebuttal said the NPP rewards hard work and not a person’s religion or tribe.

“The NPP rewards hard work. Not religion. Not tribe. Just hard work.” he wrote on Facebook.

The Eastern Regional Campaign Director of Alan Kyeremanten and Former Member of Parliament for the Ayensuano Constituency Ayeh-Paye Samuel is alleged to have told NPP delegates in a WhatsApp conversation that they should not think of voting for the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia because he is a Muslim and does not belong to the majority religious group in the country.

According to a publication by MyNewsGh, the former MP claimed that the Vice President will lose because the elections of 2024 will be based on religious grounds, especially because the New Patriotic Party has failed woefully to make Ghana’s economy better.

“We have already lost the battle of the economy. What we have left is a religious and tribal game, if you don’t have that to our favour then we are finished,” Ayeh-Paye told one delegate he was convincing to vote against Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

However in a rebuttal, the Aide to Vice President Bawumia said it was sad that such comments came from a Former MP.

“Sadly, this is coming from a man who was once a member of the parliament- a distinguished house of the State.” he said
