The Upper West Regional Communication Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, Issah Kantagyere, has called for calm among members of the party in the region following the change of it's leadership in Parliament.
The party on Tuesday, January 25, announced the changes in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House.
Tamale South Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has been replaced by Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as the new Minority Leader with Ellembelle MP - Kofi Armah Boah - taking over from Hon. James Klutse Avedzi as the Deputy Minority Leader.
Kwame Agbodza is now the Chief Whip for the Minority and is to be assisted by Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim - Banda legislator - and the Ada MP - Hon. Comfort Doyo Ghansah.
The call comes after the Communication Officer initially declined commenting on the issue in a media interview yesterday claiming he was doubtful of the authenticity of the letter written to the Speaker notifying the changes.
Stating his view on the development, he noted that even though the timing of the move was problematic, he said he is convinced the party has taken the best decision for its followers.
He therefore appealed to the sympathizers of the umbrella family to excercise restraint and give the new leadship the needed support since they were not privy to the reasons that informed the decision.
While wishing the outgoing leaders well in their future endeavours, he indicated the 2024 elections campaign would be centred on the economy, infrastructure and corrupton hence, the choice of the new leadership by the party.
He said this during an interview with Sungmaale FM's Nosourisung morning show host, Baaba Jamal, on Wednesday, January 26, 2023.
