'If you want to do prostitution, announce it' - Akrobeto
Popular Ghanaian comedian and actor Akrobeto has thrown his weight behind comments made by Prophet Kumchacha alleging that women who constantly demand money from their partners are engaging in a form of prostitution.
Reacting to the comment while on his show on UTV, the comedian narrated how a woman he had recently begun dating hit him with a series of financial demands almost immediately after they got together.
According to Akrobeto, he met the lady and after two weeks of communication, they agreed to be in a relationship despite living in different cities.
One week into the relationship, the requests began.
"She called and said she needs to move from where she currently is, she has saved up some money but she needs a top up. I asked how much and she said GH¢3,000," he recounted.
Despite his reservations, Akrobeto said he sent the money, reasoning that as her partner he had some responsibility toward her.
Shortly after, she visited him at his place.
The following day, when he called to check on her, her response shocked him.
"She said she wasn't fine. When I asked what was wrong, she said, 'Don't you know I have a child? How would GH¢400 be enough for me?'" he said.
Akrobeto said he was baffled by the sense of entitlement in her question.
"In my mind I was like, why am I responsible for your child? What sort of entitlement is that?" he said.
He calmly told her he would send more money the next day, and the moment the call ended, he blocked and deleted her number.
The comedian used the story to make a broader point about the expectations some women bring into relationships, drawing a firm line between genuine companionship and transactional arrangements.
"No one has any right to be entitled to my money. I am not a politician. I have no share in the national cake. So no one should demand money from me like they pay their taxes to me. I work hard for my own money," he said.
He concluded with a pointed message directed at women who use relationships as financial leverage.
"If you want to go into prostitution, announce it so we are all aware and know what to expect. Don't wait for a man to show interest in you and then start demanding money from him. Kumchacha is right," he said.
