Media personality MC Yaa Yeboah has shared her views on the government’s decision to reject a GH¢20 million offer from the South African telecommunications giant MTN, intended to support Ghanaians affected by xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
Speaking during a discussion on United Showbiz, which made waves online on August 31, 2026, MC Yaa Yeboah insisted that MTN should take the money back to South Africa, adding that South Africans need the money more than Ghanaians do.
“They should take the money back to their country. That money was just to make us look weak. They haven’t even accepted their fault for the xenophobic attacks in South Africa. So, the money the government rejected is sending a message to South Africans, and even if Ghana took the money, it wouldn’t stop the attacks,” she stated.

According to her, MTN made a wrong move by publicly announcing its GH¢20 million offer to Ghana after the government had privately rejected it.
She explained that MTN Ghana's Board Chair and CEO, Dr Ishmael Yamson, had an ulterior motive in publicly announcing the offer after the government rejected it.
“If you read the statement, MTN privately offered the money to the government, and it was rejected, so how come the Board Chairman of MTN, in an interview, made it public?
“They had an ulterior motive behind the statement he made publicly. The government had given MTN the reason for rejecting the money. What will $1.7 million, equivalent to GH¢20 million, do for Ghanaians?” she said.
