Over 6,000 phone numbers reported for suspected scams – TrustGH
TrustGH has revealed that more than 6,000 telephone numbers suspected of being linked to fraudulent activities have been identified through its scam verification and reporting platform.
The platform said the numbers were identified through reports from members of the public and open-source intelligence investigations conducted by its team of certified cybersecurity professionals.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 31, 2026, TrustGH said about 50% of the reported scam numbers were linked to TikTok, making it the largest single source of reported scam activity in its database.

SMS and WhatsApp also accounted for a significant number of reported cases, while other scam indicators were traced to Facebook, Google Business Profiles, telephone calls and fake websites.
According to TrustGH, most of the reported scams involved social engineering, with fraudsters impersonating bank officials, government representatives, company executives, police officers, recruitment officers and legitimate business owners.
The platform said more than 90% of the reported cases involved attempts to obtain Mobile Money payments or gain unauthorised access to victims’ Mobile Money accounts.
“TrustGH considers the high proportion of Mobile Money-related incidents a significant cybersecurity concern, given the widespread use of mobile financial services in Ghana,” the statement said.
TrustGH also said scammers were using fake online shops, recruitment schemes, lottery promotions, fraudulent business profiles and phishing attempts to deceive unsuspecting victims.
It warned that fraudsters were increasingly moving conversations across different platforms, often using TikTok to attract victims before switching to WhatsApp, SMS or phone calls to complete the scam.
The platform said it was working with the Cybersecurity Authority and the Cyber Crime Unit of the Ghana Police Service to support investigations into the reported cases.
