‘I am disappointed Grace Nortey’s biography is not receiving enough recognition’ - MC Yeboah
Entertainment pundit MC Yaa Yeboah has expressed disappointment over what she describes as the lack of recognition being given to the life and legacy of late veteran actress Grace Nortey following her passing.
Speaking on United Showbiz, Yaa Yeboah said although Grace Nortey’s death is heartbreaking for her family, it should also be treated as “a celebration of life” because of her immense contribution to Ghana’s creative arts industry.
“It is true she belongs to a family, and it is very sad, but I also believe this is a life worth celebrating. Most of the time when people lose loved ones who were very old, they wear white because they call it a celebration of life. She came to do a lot,” she said.

She praised the late actress for using radio to empower women before making a lasting impact in Ghana’s movie industry.
“Like Arnold said, she started with radio, and that show was one of the mediums she used to empower women. Then she entered the movie scene. Before Patience Ozokwor, there was Grace Nortey, and when you watched her movies, the way she acted made everything feel so real,” she noted.
She lamented that unlike in some other countries, Ghana has done little to celebrate the veteran actress through television tributes and retrospectives of her work.
“One of the things I am disappointed in is that when people who contributed so much, especially to the creative arts industry, pass away, we don’t celebrate them the way other countries do. They play their biographies, show their movies and remind people of the impact they made,” she said.
According to her, television stations should dedicate time to airing Grace Nortey’s biography, movies and other works as a way of honouring her legacy.
“The TV channels I watch at home, I have not seen any of them show her biography or her movies. It’s just like she has died and everything is passing and fleeting. I expected that every single show on television would dedicate at least a moment to reading her biography or playing her movies just to pay some respects to her,” she added.

MC Yaa Yeboah further argued that the lack of recognition could discourage other creatives who have devoted their lives to the industry.
“Those who have contributed but are still alive think about these things. They wonder, ‘So I am also going to die and no one will remember me or what I did?” She added
Drawing a comparison with international tributes, she said the coverage surrounding the deaths of global icons often highlights their achievements and preserves their legacy.
“When Dolly Parton died, American news and social media were filled with her old interviews, her songs and everything she had done. I can count the number of social media posts I have seen about Grace Nortey, just about two,” she said
