Kekeli takes spotlight as PRESEC humbles Mfantsipim, Presby SHS in NSMQ quarter-finals
Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC-Legon) has advanced to the semi-finals of the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after a commanding performance against defending champions Mfantsipim School (Botwe) and Presby SHS, Bompata, in the quarter-finals.
PRESEC finished the contest on 56 points, ahead of Mfantsipim School, which recorded 39 points, while Presby SHS, Bompata, managed 24 points.
Much of the attention, however, was drawn to PRESEC’s Jesse Kekeli Afudego, whose impressive display in the second round, popularly known as the Speed Race, helped underline the school’s dominance.
Kekeli, known for his speed and quick responses, delivered a standout performance by answering several questions correctly during the intense round, earning praise from viewers and NSMQ enthusiasts online.
He was supported by teammate Jason Antwi-Agyei as the PRESEC team maintained its composure throughout the contest.
The quarter-final clash was packed with history, ambition and unfinished business, particularly for PRESEC and Mfantsipim.

Two years ago, Mfantsipim School ended PRESEC-Legon’s title hopes in the 2024 semi-finals, knocking the Adade3 boys out of the championship race.
This time, however, PRESEC turned the tables.
With the two schools meeting again on the NSMQ stage, PRESEC seized the opportunity to avenge that defeat, producing a confident performance to secure their place in the next round.
The presence of Presby SHS, Bompata, added another layer of intrigue to the contest. The school had emerged as one of the revelations of the 2026 competition and was determined to prove that its impressive run was no fluke.
For Mfantsipim, the quarter-final represented a crucial test as the defending champions pursued history. The school was aiming for a third consecutive NSMQ title, which would have added another remarkable chapter to its history while providing a fitting celebration of its 150th anniversary.
PRESEC-Legon also entered the contest with history within reach. The eight-time champions are pursuing a record ninth NSMQ trophy and their victory over the defending champions has moved them one step closer to reclaiming the coveted title.
