NPP demands answers over 10-month disappearance of Dambai resident
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has renewed calls for answers over the whereabouts of Fuseini Mohammed, a resident of Dambai in the Oti Region who was allegedly abducted nearly 10 months ago.
According to the party, Mohammed disappeared on the night of October 21, 2025, at about 9:00 p.m. while returning home on a motorbike with his pregnant wife after closing their shop, and was allegedly abducted about 50 metres from the residence of the Oti Regional Minister.
At a media engagement in Dambai on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the party, led by its General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, questioned why no person had been brought to justice and what security agencies had done to establish Mohammed’s whereabouts.
“Where is Fuseini Mohammed? Who took him? Why has no person been brought to justice in connection with his disappearance?” the party asked.
The party said the circumstances surrounding the incident made the lack of a breakthrough worrying.
According to the NPP, the incident occurred along a major route in Dambai at a time when the ferry was not operating, limiting movement into and out of the town.

It said the alternative route towards Nkwanta Junction was about eight kilometres long and had three security checkpoints operating at night.
The party said these circumstances raised questions about how the alleged abductors were able to leave the area without being detected.
“If these accounts are accurate, legitimate questions arise as to how the perpetrators could have allegedly abducted a citizen, transported him through or out of the area, and apparently escaped detection,” it said.
The NPP is demanding an update from the government, the Oti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and the relevant security agencies on the investigation.
It wants to know what specific steps have been taken since Mohammed disappeared and whether information provided by residents and potential witnesses has been followed up.
The party is also asking whether CCTV footage from the area and along relevant routes was retrieved and subjected to forensic analysis.
“We understand that there was no power outage in the area at the material time. If surveillance cameras were operational, the public deserves to know whether available footage was retrieved and analysed to identify the vehicle allegedly involved or reconstruct its movements,” it added.
The NPP is further asking whether records from the security checkpoints along the route were examined and whether officers who were on duty that night were interviewed.
It also wants the Oti Regional Security Council to explain the role it has played in coordinating the investigation and what assurances have been given to Mohammed’s family.
Raising concerns about what it described as unequal attention to cases involving ordinary citizens, the party further questioned whether Mohammed’s disappearance would have remained unresolved for almost 10 months if the missing person had been a senior government official or another politically exposed person.
“If the person who had disappeared under these circumstances had been a senior government official, a Metropolitan, Municipal or District Chief Executive, a Regional Minister or another politically exposed person, would the matter have remained unresolved for almost ten months without a publicly communicated breakthrough? Every Ghanaian life has equal value,” the party stressed.
The NPP has called on civil society organisations, traditional authorities, religious leaders, human rights groups and the media to support the demand for a thorough investigation.
It also appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to direct the relevant security and investigative agencies to treat the case with urgency, adding that it will continue to demand answers until the truth about Mohammed’s disappearance is established.
“The people of Dambai must be able to go about their lawful activities without fear. The people of the Oti Region deserve to know that when one of their own disappears under suspicious circumstances, the machinery of the State will work relentlessly to establish the truth,” the party concluded.
Background
Fuseini, a 42-year-old man, was reportedly abducted on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, on Residency Road in Dambai.
His wife at the time told the media that the incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. while they were riding home from their shop on a motorbike.
According to her, they were near the Oti Regional Minister’s residence when an oncoming vehicle with its headlights on temporarily blinded them. Her husband stopped the motorbike to let the vehicle pass, and two men reportedly emerged, claiming to be police officers.
“They hit my husband in the chest, handcuffed him, and bundled him into a black pick-up vehicle before speeding away,” she recounted. She added that her husband was unable to speak or resist after being attacked.
