Former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi, has argued that the Attorney-General’s Office does not need the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to pursue major investigations and prosecutions.
According to him, the current political environment makes it difficult for officials appointed under previous administrations to operate effectively, and the Attorney-General should therefore be prepared to work independently of the OSP.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on September 1, 2026, Dr Adomako Kissi said the Attorney-General’s Office has the legal authority to pursue its mandate without the OSP.
“I would encourage the Attorney-General to operate and work without the OSP’s office. They don’t need them,” he stated.
Dr Adomako Kissi cited recent developments involving the former Chief Justice as an indication that the government can use existing legal processes to pursue high-profile matters without the involvement of the OSP.

“It sort of appears now in this country, if you are appointed by another government, whether you like it or not, or nominated by another government, it's going to be very difficult to get anything done,” he said.
He stressed that his position was not for the Attorney-General to act outside the law but rather to utilise the powers already provided under the legal framework.
“I’m not saying that the Attorney-General should go and do something not grounded in law. But my point is that they’ve been able to use the law to do what they could and what they can without the OSP’s office,” he explained.
His comments come amid renewed discussions about the respective mandates of the Attorney-General and the Special Prosecutor in handling major investigations and corruption-related prosecutions in Ghana.
