'Their battle must end' – Badu Kobi urges Afenyo-Markin, Sammy Gyamfi to withdraw court case
Founder and leader of Glorious Wave Church International, Prophet Emmanuel Badu Kobi, has called on Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi to end their public dispute and withdraw the related court case in the interest of national peace.
Speaking during a church service on Sunday, August 30, 2026, and shared on X on August 31, 2026, the cleric explained that he regarded both politicians as his “sons” and was compelled by divine instruction to intervene.
“I use my authority and my assignment to plead with lawyer Afenyo-Markin and lawyer Sammy Gyamfi. I can call both of them right now and solve this matter but God says I should tell them. Lawyer Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, who is my son, and lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, who is also my son,” he said.

He emphasised that the conflict was harmful to Ghana’s image and urged the two leaders to reconcile for the greater good of the nation.
“This is how he calls me papa. I plead with them for the sake of Ghana, which is bigger than them. They should draw all swords down. Their battle must come to an end,” he added.
Prophet Badu Kobi went further to call on Afenyo-Markin to withdraw his legal case against Gyamfi, warning that failure to do so would show disrespect to divine authority.
“The court case from lawyer Afenyo-Markin should be withdrawn. If he does not withdraw it, it means he doesn’t respect God; he doesn’t respect Emmanuel Badu Kobi.”

He also stressed that peace between the two political figures would ultimately strengthen Ghana and ensure national progress.
“So Afenyo-Markin, lawyer, Minority Leader, my respected son, he must withdraw the case from court now and they should get peace between them, and Ghana must be better and bigger,” Badu Kobi noted.
The remarks come against the backdrop of a heated political and legal confrontation. Afenyo-Markin, the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Effutu and Minority Leader in Parliament, has repeatedly questioned the financial performance of GoldBod, particularly alleged losses of approximately GH¢22 billion linked to the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.
In response, Gyamfi, a former National Democratic Congress communications official now serving as GoldBod CEO, publicly described Afenyo-Markin as an “extortionist”.
The Minority Leader rejected the accusation and filed a defamation suit against Gyamfi and associated media outlets, seeking damages, a retraction, and a public apology.
