New Winneba Attack: Police report shows mob from Gomoa invaded Effutu township with weapons
A police situational report on the chaos that was in New Winneba, a community in the Central Region, has shown that a mob from three Gomoa communities started the horrific attacks.
According to the report, about 300 people from these communities, who were armed with various weapons, including guns, started attacking people and properties in New Winneba around 10:40 am on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
“On 01/09/2026 at 1040 hrs, an irate mob numbering about 300, wielding guns, stones, cutlasses and sticks from Gomoa Oguakrom, Gomoa Yenkuadze and Gomoa Pomadze stormed the New Winneba Township, Effutu North District Police Headquarters and other stores and residences of the natives, attacked them and caused damage to properties,” parts of the report read.
The report also indicated that at least 3 people - all men - were killed in the attacks and 12 injured.
“About 15 injured victims have been sent to the Tauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, including an officer, and 3 have been confirmed dead,” the police said.

Some photos of the incident sighted by GhanaWeb report showed the mortal remains of the three men who were killed during the attacks in what looked like a morgue.
Others showed the victims who had been injured receiving medical treatment.
Some of them had sustained injuries to their heads, legs, abdomen, hands and other parts of their bodies.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, who reportedly narrowly escaped the attacks, has claimed that a group of individuals had assumed control of lands in the area and were allegedly operating as landguards.
However, the claim by A-Plus, which he says fuelled tensions between communities and led to the clash, was not stated in the police report.
