BoG Governor's GoldBod role creates conflict of interest – Dr Amin Adam
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for the removal of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr Johnson Asiama, from the board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), amid claims that the central bank knew its gold transactions were making losses for the state.
Speaking at a press briefing on September 1, 2026, former Finance Minister and NPP member Dr Mohammed Amin Adam said the Bank of Ghana has been funding GoldBod while the Governor also sits on its board.
He argued that this creates a conflict of interest, particularly because GoldBod’s operations are alleged to have resulted in losses to the country.

“We are asking for the removal of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana from the board of GoldBod because his institution has been funding GoldBod and he has been sitting on the board while GoldBod operations create losses for this country,” he stated.
He also questioned whether the Bank of Ghana knew that the gold transactions would result in losses.
According to him, the existence of a second agreement suggests that the Bank knew the price at which it bought the gold and the price at which it sold it.
He said this raises questions about whether the transactions amounted to deliberately causing financial loss to the state.
The former Finance Minister also said the party is demanding the release of the legal document that allows GoldBod to charge its fees.

He called for GoldBod’s 2025 accounts to be corrected to remove the GH¢4.54 billion government capital injection from its revenue.
According to him, the amount was a government investment and should therefore not have been recorded as revenue.
The party is calling for greater transparency over GoldBod’s agreements, finances and operations, particularly regarding the use of public funds.
