Ghana boxing icon Isaac Dogboe announces retirement
Former WBO super-bantamweight champion, Isaac “The Royal Storm” Dogboe, has officially retired from professional boxing, bringing an end to a career that saw him become one of Ghana’s most celebrated fighters.
Dogboe retires with a professional record of 24 wins and four losses, including 16 victories by knockout.
The defining moment of his career came in 2018, when the then 23 year old defeated Jessie Magdaleno to win the WBO super-bantamweight world title.
The victory made Dogboe Ghana’s youngest world boxing champion at the time.
Dogboe stopped Magdaleno in the 11th round in a dramatic performance that showcased the aggression and resilience that became hallmarks of his fighting style.
He followed that achievement by successfully defending his title against Japan’s Hidenori Otake, stopping him in the first round.
His reign came to an end against Mexican star Emanuel Navarrete, who defeated Dogboe before winning their rematch as well.
Dogboe, however, refused to let the setbacks define his career and moved up to the featherweight division.

He went on to record notable victories over Chris Avalos, Adam Lopez and Christopher Diaz, while also featuring in major world-title contests and eliminators.
Among them were his WBO featherweight title challenge against Cuban star Robeisy Ramirez and a WBC final eliminator against Nick Ball.
Known for his punching power and fearless approach, Dogboe’s trademark battle cry, “Neho!”, meaning “to uproot,” became synonymous with his identity inside the ring.
In announcing his retirement, Dogboe expressed gratitude to God, boxing fans and everyone who supported him throughout his journey.
“Glory Be To The LORD ALMIGHTY and Thank you boxing fans and supporters Your Support Over The Years Is Greatly Appreciated. Words alone cannot express my sincerest gratitude. Thank you!! NEHO!! Isaac ‘Royal Storm’ Dogboe. This Is Goodbye,” he wrote.
Dogboe’s retirement closes a chapter on a journey that took him from Ghana to the pinnacle of professional boxing.
His world championship triumph, memorable battles and resilience through adversity have secured his place in Ghanaian boxing history.
