'We have stabilised the present; now we must secure the future' - Thomas Ampem

Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, says Ghana must now build on its restored macroeconomic stability and secure a productive, competitive and resilient economy for the next decade. “We have stabilised the present. Now we must secure the future,” he declared. Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, at the Business Roundtable Extended 2026 Executive Dialogue in Accra, Ampem said the country must shift its attention from correcting past economic challenges to expanding production, attracting investment and creating jobs. The dialogue, organised by Ishmael Yamson & Associates, was held under the theme, “After the Corrections: Building Resilient Economic Pillars for the Next Decade.” Fresh shake-up looms as President Mahama prepares to reshuffle CEOs Ampem identified stronger economic buffers, increased productivity, effective institutions, inclusive growth and a vibrant private sector as essential to protecting the economy against future shocks. He also called for greater value addition, stronger local production and closer links among agriculture, industry, technology and skills. According to him, securing Ghana’s future will require a new partnership between Government and businesses. Government, he said, would provide stability, infrastructure, efficient regulation and fiscal discipline, while the private sector must respond with investment, innovation, productivity, exports and job creation. “That is the partnership we need—a partnership built around a common objective: a productive, competitive and resilient Ghanaian economy,” he stated.
