Bawah Mogtari urges Ghanaian women abroad to build generational wealth
Senior Presidential Advisor to President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has urged Ghanaian women living abroad to move beyond sending money home and focus on building businesses that can create wealth for future generations.
She said Ghanaian women in the diaspora should use their knowledge, skills, experience, networks and international connections to support Ghana’s development, instead of focusing mainly on remittances and personal investments.
Bawah Mogtari made the call in a Facebook post sighted by GhanaWeb on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, after she took part in the EVE Women’s Forum USA.

She spoke at the forum on the theme, “Legacy and Longevity: Women Building Wealth and Health Across the Diaspora,” where she highlighted the need for women to build businesses and institutions that can stand the test of time.
According to her, Ghana has made progress in women’s leadership, including the historic election of the country’s first female Vice President. However, she said this progress must also lead to stronger economic opportunities for women.
“Let us move from remittances to investment, from investment to enterprise, and from enterprise to generational wealth,” she said.
Bawah Mogtari said the next generation should inherit more than the challenges faced by their predecessors.
She said they should also inherit businesses, institutions, investments and a strong legacy that can continue to create opportunities for years to come.
