Prominent Ghanaian theologian, motivational speaker, and former General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, Reverend Professor Paul Frimpong-Manso, has broken his silence on the criticisms directed at him and other clergy over their association with the National Cathedral project.
In an interview with Accra-based Neat FM, shared on X on September 7, 2026, he described the accusations as deeply unfair, stressing that his commitment has always been to the nation rather than to partisan politics.

According to him, the constant labelling of respected religious leaders as political sympathisers has left him disillusioned.
“The reason I was deeply fed up is that when you are tagged as a sympathiser of a political party, it is truly painful — especially when you know you are only serving the country,” he said, underscoring the emotional toll such allegations have taken on his decades of service.
Reverend Frimpong-Manso reminded critics of his long record of national service, pointing out that his work has spanned multiple administrations.
“Some of us have really been through it. I love this country, and I have worked under various presidents, including the late Prof Mills,” he noted, emphasising that his loyalty has always been to Ghana rather than to any political figure.
He recounted a moment when he was abroad and received a call from then-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo about the Cathedral project.
He said that upon becoming a member, however, he was met with hostility and insults from sections of the public.
“I was out of the country when I received a call from former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo about the National Cathedral, but look at the insults I received from Ghanaians. Do you think that myself, Opoku Nyina, and Prof. Martin — after all our hard work — it is the National Cathedral that will feed us?” he asked, visibly pained by the backlash.

Rejecting further allegations of financial misconduct, he insisted that opposition to the Cathedral should not translate into personal attacks on individuals.
The theologian admitted that the accusations had left him wounded, but he chose to respond with forgiveness rather than bitterness.
“You can say you don’t like the idea of the Cathedral, but that does not give you the warrant to accuse me of spending money related to its construction,” he stressed, calling for fairness in public discourse.
“This is so painful, and I leave all those who accused me to God. God will forgive them. That is all I will say, because if I do not pray for forgiveness for them, they will pay dearly with their lives,” he declared, highlighting his reliance on faith in the face of adversity.

Reverend Frimpong-Manso also questioned the very basis of the criticisms, reminding Ghanaians of his broader contributions beyond the Cathedral project.
“What is a Cathedral? Do you know the works I have done? God should forgive them,” he said, reiterating his appeal for understanding and compassion.
