'Desist from attacking Bawumia' – Pro-Bawumia group warns Owusu Bempah

A pro-Bawumia group, the Action Movement for Bawumia, has issued a stern warning to the leader of Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah, urging him to stop his attacks on New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia or face their response. In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the group accused Reverend Owusu Bempah of engaging in what it described as “pulpit blackmail and extortion” to solicit favours from the NPP and its flagbearer. “We, the admirers of Dr Bawumia, want to advise you to be very careful with your callous attacks on the person of Dr Bawumia. “We, the admirers of Dr Bawumia, consider the attacks by Reverend Owusu Bempah on the person of Dr Bawumia as psychological and pulpit blackmail intended to solicit unknown favours from the NPP and its Flagbearer,” parts of the statement read. The group attributed the strained relationship between Reverend Owusu Bempah and Dr Bawumia to the pastor’s previous encounter with the Ghana Police Service under former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare. It alleged that Reverend Owusu Bempah’s attacks on Dr Bawumia were an attempt to drag the NPP flagbearer into what it considers a personal dispute between the pastor and the former IGP. Describing the attacks as “despicable”, the group warned that it would be forced to take action against Reverend Owusu Bempah if he failed to stop the attacks and allow peace to prevail. “We know you have problems with the former IGP Dampare, who had you arrested and arraigned before court when you had issues with Agrada. Do not extend your personal problems with IGP Dampare to the innocent Dr Bawumia. “If you want to be respected as a pastor, you must bear in mind that Dr Bawumia has admirers and supporters across the country and beyond. “We consider your constant attacks on Dr Bawumia a despicable attitude unbecoming of a man of God,” the statement read. Full statement REVEREND OWUSU BEMPAH ENGAGES IN CALCULATED PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PULPIT BLACKMAIL AGAINST DR MAHAMUDU BAWUMIA AND THE NPP Reverend Owusu Bempah has of late developed a despicable habit of using his pulpit almost every Sunday in his church to attack Dr Bawumia for no tangible reason. We, the admirers of Dr Bawumia, advise you to be very careful with your callous attacks on the person of Dr Bawumia. We, the admirers of Dr Bawumia, consider the attacks by Reverend Owusu Bempah on the person of Dr Bawumia as psychological and pulpit blackmail intended to solicit unknown favours from the NPP and its Flagbearer. Reverend Owusu Bempah is trying very hard to force religious discussions into Dr Bawumia’s presidential bid for the 2028 elections. We advise Rev. Owusu Bempah not to start a problem he cannot handle when it finally gets out of hand. We know you have problems with the former IGP Dampare, who had you arrested and arraigned before court when you had issues with Agrada. Do not extend your personal problems with IGP Dampare to the innocent Dr Bawumia. If you want to be respected as a pastor, you must bear in mind that Dr Bawumia has admirers and supporters across the country and beyond. We consider your constant attacks on Dr Bawumia a despicable attitude unbecoming of a man of God. Please, Rev. Owusu Bempah, do not start what you cannot handle. You must re-examine your recent despicable attitude regarding how you unfairly attack Dr Bawumia in your church almost every Sunday. You are using the holy pulpit to blackmail an innocent man who has done you no wrong. Please, Rev. Owusu Bempah, desist from the unwarranted, consistent bigotry and psychological blackmail directed at Dr Bawumia, in the interest of the peace and religious cohesion Ghana currently enjoys. It appears you are seriously prejudiced and obsessed with your attacks on Dr Bawumia. A word to the wise should be enough. You must yield to good counsel. Issued by the Action Movement for Bawumia
