Come and take $5,000 if Asante Kotoko do not win the GPL - Sammy Kuffuor

Former Black Stars and Bayern Munich defender Samuel Osei Kuffour has backed Asante Kotoko to win the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League title despite the Porcupine Warriors dropping points on the opening day. Kuffour made the bold prediction while interacting with fans during Monday Stars football at the Bawaleshie Park in Accra on Monday, September 7, 2026. The former Bayern Munich defender was challenged by fans over his belief that Kotoko would emerge as champions, but he remained adamant about their chances and was willing to put money behind his prediction. “Come and take $5,000 from me if Asante Kotoko do not win the Ghana Premier League this season,” Kuffour told the fans. His confidence comes just days after Kotoko were held to a 2-2 draw by newly promoted Debibi United in their opening league fixture at the Golden City Park in Berekum. Kotoko took the lead through Yakubu Dogo before Debibi United fought back to level through Richard Owusu. Owusu later put the debutants ahead, but Hubert Gyau rescued a point for the Porcupine Warriors with a 79th-minute equaliser. Despite that setback, Kuffour believes Kotoko have enough quality to recover and mount a successful title challenge. The Porcupine Warriors will get their next opportunity to respond when they host Heart of Lions in their second league game. FKA/AM
