‘I was raped for four years by a man my parents trusted’ – Woman recounts childhood trauma
A Nigerian woman has recounted the painful experience of being sexually abused for four years during her childhood by a man her parents had trusted and welcomed into their home.
Speaking in an interview shared on Yomi Listens on September 8, 2026, the woman revealed that the abuse began when she was just five years old, after the man, who had joined her parents’ church as a keyboardist, was brought into their home.
According to her, the man initially appeared trustworthy and was supported by her parents because he had very little.
She said he took advantage of the times when her parents were away to sexually abuse her.
“I was raped for four years consistently by someone who my parents trusted and brought into our home. He did things like masturbating in front of me, and when he released, he stored it in his nose and used the remaining one on my body. Apart from a knife or any other instrument, there was nothing that has not entered inside of me: stick, spoon, and whatever he would get,” she recounted.
She continued, “My parents are general overseers. I don’t know how my parents really got to meet him. He came to church and started playing the keyboard for us. He didn’t have anything, and my parents brought him in.”
She explained that the abuse began on a day when she was alone in the house with the man. He called her into his room and threatened her into keeping the incident a secret.
“I was five when he was introduced into my life. It was this day that he called me into his room while no one was at home. He asked me to sit on the bed, then the next thing was like, I shouldn’t open my mouth to tell anybody, and that was it. He lay down on me; someone came to knock on the house door and he stopped,” she shared.

The survivor recalled that she later innocently told her seven-year-old elder brother that the man had abused her.
However, because they were both children, her brother did not know how to intervene.
“Later that night, I didn’t know why I was excited, but I told my elder brother that the man lay down on me. My brother was 7, and we were all kids, so he couldn’t do anything about it. He heard when I told my brother,” she noted.
She mentioned that the man eventually heard about the disclosure and later threatened her with a knife, warning her not to tell anyone about what was happening.
“He waited till late in the night; he took me to the kitchen and then used a knife to threaten me. He said the next time I tell anybody about it, he’s going to kill me,” she recounted.
According to her, the abuse continued almost every day for the next four years, with the perpetrator finding opportunities to assault her even when other family members were around.
She added that the only times she felt relief were when the man travelled to visit his own family.
“The only time I got to rest was when he probably went home to see his parents. Most of the time, my dad was at church, and my mom was at work. Even on days when everyone was at home, he found ways to make it happen,” she added.
