NPP Chairmanship Race: How Boadu, Crabbe, Afoko, Agyarko lined up on ballot
The balloting for the upcoming national executive elections for Ghana’s largest opposition political party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was conducted on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
The four competing for the National Chairmanship position of the party, Paul Afoko, John Boadu, Boakye Agyarko and Sammy Crabbe, learned their positions on the ballot paper for the election, which is slated for October 3, 2026.
Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, picked the coveted number one position on the ballot paper.
The second position on the ballot paper was picked by former Second Vice Chairman of the party, Sammy Crabbe.
One-time NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko, who would be contesting for the position for the second time, secured the third slot on the ballot paper.
Former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko will contest in the National Chairmanship race from the fourth position on the ballot paper.
The outcome of the balloting adds momentum to the race as the four contenders intensify their campaigns ahead of the October 3 polls.

The National Chairmanship contest is expected to be closely watched, with the candidates seeking to win the support of delegates and convince them of their ability to lead the party into its next phase.

The October 3 elections will see delegates converge at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to elect new national executives who will be tasked with steering the affairs of the party and also ensuring that they win the next national election, which is the 2028 general election.
