Dear GhanaWeb: My husband died suddenly four months after our wedding
Dear GhanaWeb,
I married my best friend and soulmate on January 10, 2026. I thought I was finally beginning the life I had always dreamed of with the man I loved, but barely four months later, my whole world came crashing down.
My husband suddenly passed away on May 4, 2026, after what I was told was a blood clot. I am only 31 years old, and I still cannot believe I am having to learn how to live without him. It has been two months since his unexpected death, but I am still in shock and traumatized by what happened.
The hardest part is that I was the one who found him. That morning, he left me in bed and went to the garage. I don't know what happened after that, but I later found him deceased on the garage floor.
He had not been sick, so nothing prepared me for the possibility that I could lose him so suddenly. He was such a good man and the love of my life. He was also the only man I have ever felt truly loved me, and I never imagined that our time together would be this short.
We had only been married for a few months, and now I am left trying to understand how the person I planned my entire future with could suddenly be gone.
I have been staying with my family since his death, especially during the funeral and the period immediately after it. But this weekend, I have to return to the home we shared, and honestly, I am terrified.
I know that house is going to feel so different without him. Every room, every corner and every little thing is going to remind me of the man who should still be there with me.
I am carrying his child, which gives me a reason to keep going, but I still feel incredibly alone. I can be surrounded by people and still feel like I have nobody to talk to because the one person I would always turn to is no longer here.
Sometimes I wish I could just talk to him one more time, tell him how much I miss him and ask him how I am supposed to live this life without him.
I pray that one day this grief will become easier to carry and that I will be able to live fully again, just as I believe he would want me to. But right now, I don't know how to return to the home we built together and face a life he was supposed to be part of.
How do I go back to that house, raise our child, and continue living when the man I thought I would grow old with is suddenly gone? This is too much for me to bear. How should I go about this?
