‘I went to North and Benin to curse a lady several times but it never worked’ - Mzbel
Cursing someone is one thing Ghanaian musician Mzbel, born Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, believes no longer works and is a waste of time, money and energy.
Speaking on the September 19, 2026, edition of UTV’s United Showbiz, Mzbel disclosed that she travelled to the Northern Region of Ghana and also crossed border into Benin several times to curse a UK-based Ghanaian, Janice Inez Mensah, whom she accused of scamming her of GH¢1.2 million.
According to the musician, after she was allegedly duped, people who had given their money to her started putting pressure on her, threatening to expose her on social media and take other actions if she could not retrieve their funds.
She said this pressure pushed her to explore every possible means to recover the money, including travelling to the Northern Region and Benin to curse Janice. However, she said nothing has happened to Janice to date.
“I went to the North several times, and I even went to Benin. I did everything I was supposed to do. I went to Benin because of my money, GH¢1.2 million. People were putting pressure on me. Despite all the curses, nothing has happened to Janice to this day. She is still living in the UK,” she stated.
The “16 Years” hitmaker stated that in this current generation, “curses do not work, because I did whatever I was supposed to do and still nothing happened to Janice.”

Mzbel said she also took legal action against Janice, leading to the arrest of the UK-based lady’s brothers, whom she said she had personally paid money to in Ghana.
According to her, the brothers were sent to court, but the case was subsequently thrown out because she did not have evidence to prove that they were aware the transaction was a scam.
“I even took the matter to court. The police arrested Janice’s brothers, whom I had paid money to in Ghana, but the court subsequently threw out the case, saying I did not have evidence to prove that the boys knew it was a scam,” she said.
However, Mzbel said the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has been able to recover only a very small percentage of the money.
The musician said she continues to curse Janice whenever she uses water, but none of the curses has had any effect. According to her, Janice would only occasionally send about GH¢5,000 through EOCO for her.
“Curses do not work because I curse Janice every morning when I wake up. When I am drinking water, I curse her, and even when I am bathing, I curse her. Anywhere I use water, I curse her. Then, randomly, she will send about GH¢5,000 to EOCO to give to me,” she noted.
Mzbel said she believes in curses and that, back in the day, they worked, but she now believes they no longer work as they used to.
She explained that because her case was genuine, she expected the gods to have caused something to happen to the UK-based woman, but nothing happened to her.
Background
In 2025, Mzbel became a victim of a high-profile alleged fraud scheme involving a promise of overseas employment for Ghanaian youth.
The case was brought before the Accra Circuit Court on Thursday, June 5, 2025, and was presided over by His Honour Jojo Amoah Hagan.
The court heard that Mzbel was defrauded of GH¢829,637.00 and £30,028.53 by a syndicate allegedly led by Janice Inez Mensah.
According to facts presented by DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye, Janice Inez Mensah, a UK-based Ghanaian and long-time friend of Mzbel, proposed a scheme to help young Ghanaians secure employment in the United Kingdom in fields such as caregiving, salon work and construction.
Mzbel, believing the offer was genuine, advertised the opportunity through her Facebook, TikTok and Instagram platforms, ultimately mobilising 26 of her followers.
Between March and May 2025, Mzbel and the recruited individuals transferred large sums of money to Janice and her associates.
Investigations by Detective Sergeant James Kwesi Turkson revealed that GH¢447,590.00 was deposited into the account of Bernard Boakye Boateng, while GH¢75,443.00 was deposited into the account of Japheth Tete Mensah.
The funds were later withdrawn or disbursed without any jobs being secured for the applicants.
