Gospel musician Agnes Opoku Agyemang has identified a trend of pastors and other individuals marrying gospel musicians primarily to benefit from their fame and influence, rather than out of genuine love.
Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Atuu on September 20, 2026, Agnes Opoku Agyemang said marriage should be based on genuine love and a mutual understanding between partners.
“Everyone has a purpose for getting married. Those days, when most pastors meet gospel musicians, they want to marry them so that they can also tap into their fame.
“It’s not about love for some of them and they don’t really think and plan their future. Since you’re a popular gospel musician, they feel they will also be famous when they get married,” she said.
She stressed that people should not enter marriage because of what they expect to gain from their partners, warning that such conditions can eventually create problems in the relationship.

“Marriage is all about love and understanding. If we want to marry, we should marry because we love our partner, not because of what you will benefit from,” she stated.
She continued, “The marriage will never work if there’s a condition and we will end up blaming the devil. We are our own devil.”
Agnes Opoku Agyemang further questioned what could happen when the reason for marrying a popular gospel musician disappears, particularly if the woman becomes less active in music after having children.
“What if the reason you married your partner is no longer there, what then happens? What if she no longer sings? It will get to a point where she will give birth and get busy. She won’t be able to sing or release songs, which might affect the person’s fame; then you start regretting getting married to her,” she shared.
She added, “The marriage can only last when there’s love and understanding. Everyone’s marriage can collapse. Pastors, gospel musicians and worldly people can go through divorce."
