Ghana’s drug transit role linked to 'clandestine' labs - NPP alleges
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has alleged that its intelligence suggests that Ghana’s drug trafficking problem goes beyond a series of cocaine seizures.
According to the Party's National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, widely known as Nana B, Ghana has become a major transit point for illicit drugs and narcotics, allegedly with the involvement of some officials at the country’s ports and airports.
“Our information is that our country has become a major transit point for illicit drugs, for narcotics. And it’s not by accident, but because of the complicity of officials at our port and our airports and also government officials who have compromised the very checkpoints meant to protect the integrity and the image of this nation,” he said during a press conference on September 22, 2026.

Nana B further alleged that some laboratories were operating in the country to process narcotics for export.
"...We are reliably informed that there are clandestine laboratories operating within our borders, processing narcotics for export. That is the danger we find ourselves [in],” he said.
He also alleged that government officials were aiding the movement of narcotics out of the country.
The comments come weeks after French customs authorities seized nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine, valued at an estimated €225 million (about US$261 million), at the port of Dunkirk on September 10, 2026.
The cocaine was concealed in a container of plastic materials that had been shipped from Ghana to France, putting renewed attention on Ghana’s role in the international movement of narcotics.
