Dear GhanaWeb: My married lover vanished with our GH¢400,000
I have been dating a married man since 2022, and for a long time, I genuinely believed we were building a future together. I loved him deeply, and he always told me he loved me too.
He constantly complained about his marriage and how unhappy he was with his wife. He would even tell me that he wished we had met earlier.
Although we had to keep our relationship secret, we did everything lovers do. By 2023, we started talking seriously about spending our lives together.
We agreed that we would save money, invest it and eventually create a life of our own.
Our plan was to save GH¢500,000. Once we reached that amount, we would invest some of it and use part of the money to get a place for me to stay. I would move there, get pregnant and we would start having children together.
The account we used was in his name, but we both contributed to it. In fact, because he had a family to take care of, I contributed much more. Sometimes I could save as much as GH¢10,000 a month, and almost every extra money I got went into that account because I genuinely believed we were saving towards our future.
At one point, the money reached about GH¢440,000. He occasionally used some of it for family matters, but I would check the account and complain whenever I noticed withdrawals. I estimated that I personally contributed between GH¢300,000 and GH¢400,000.
But I didn’t care that I was contributing more because I loved him and believed the money would eventually give us the freedom to be together.
In March this year, I told him that by August, I would be able to raise the remaining GH¢60,000 so we could reach our target.
He was excited about the plan. We had even decided that I would move to Takoradi. He said we would first invest the money in Treasury bills and then consider other investments later.
Everything seemed to be going according to plan until May, when he suddenly stopped communicating with me.
At first, I thought something had happened to him. I called and sent messages, but I couldn’t reach him. I eventually went to his workplace, only to be told that he had resigned.
I later discovered that he and his entire family had moved from their residence, and nobody seemed to know where they had gone.
This man had never done anything major without telling me, so I strongly believe he has disappeared with the money we saved, including the money I worked so hard to contribute.
I have spent months hoping that he would contact me, but he hasn’t. I have tried calling him with different numbers, but whenever he recognises my voice, he blocks that number too.
At this point, I don’t even want the relationship anymore. I don’t want the house in Takoradi, I don’t want the dream of having children with him and I don’t want anything else from him. I just want my money back.
What am I supposed to do now to get back the money I worked so hard to save with the man I trusted? I need your suggestions, please.
