MP’s Attempted Arrest: What we know so far
GhanaWeb earlier broke the news that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour, was nearly arrested by an woman who claimed to be an officer from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
The incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the premises of the Accra High Court, where the MP was representing Salomey Awity Baffoe in the Ghana Jollof case.
During the failed arrest, a confrontation broke out between the MP, the alleged EOCO official and members of his entourage after he refused to go with her.
The situation became tense, with the official nearly being pushed aside by the MP’s vehicle.
The MP later managed to drive away, but the incident did not end there. A white pickup vehicle, which the EOCO official got into, was captured chasing the MP’s vehicle from the court premises.
In the wake of the incident, here is what we know so far:
The MP after the court adjourned a bail application for his client granted interviews with the media outside the court premises.

After he was done, he proceeded together with his people to head to his vehicle when a woman approached and reportedly attempted to arrest him.
The woman then identified herself as an EOCO official and could be heard saying they had written a letter to the MP’s office inviting him over but had failed to acknowledge it.
The MP, in turn, insisted that EOCO ought to write to the Speaker of Parliament to properly invite him because he is a sitting MP.
The exact reason for the MP’s attempted arrest, according to EOCO, is in relation to an ongoing investigation.
The EOCO official appeared agitated after she was pushed while attempting to prevent the MP from entering his vehicle.
The Minority has since condemned the incident.
