I had seven cars, but later realised I was wasting money’ - Ofori Amponsah
Highlife musician Ofori Amponsah has revealed that he once spent heavily on luxury cars before eventually realising that the money could have been invested in more valuable assets.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM, the “Otoolege” hitmaker said he owned about seven cars at one point, including expensive models such as an Audi S5, BMW 8 Series and BMW 7 Series, but later regretted spending so much on vehicles.
“I had about seven cars in the house at a time. I had an S5, I had 8 Series, 7 Series. I had different cars,” he said.
Ofori Amponsah explained that his perspective changed when he considered how much value he lost after selling the cars, noting that the money could have been used for investments.
“Imagine buying an S5 fresh maybe $75,000 and then selling it eight years later for ¢50 million. I realised it,” he stated.
The musician admitted that many people in the entertainment industry make similar financial decisions without considering long-term gains.
“You see the stupid thing that we do,” he added.
Beyond cars, Ofori Amponsah also spoke about his love for property and farming, which he inherited from his upbringing.
“My mum was a teacher. My dad was a businessman and so my dad had farms and everything. So, when people were spending vacations in Accra, we’ll be spending time on my farm. I mean I’m a farm boy,” he said.
He revealed that his passion for farming has continued into adulthood, adding that all his houses currently have farms.
“When you come to my house right now, every house that I have now has a farm,” he noted.
When asked about the number of houses he owns, the musician hinted that he has acquired several properties over the years.
“Oh, it’s plenty,” he responded.
