Baffour Awuah details why he drove off during attempted EOCO arrest

Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, says he was forced to drive away from the High Court premises after a woman who identified herself as an official of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) allegedly attempted to take him away without providing identification or an arrest warrant. According to him, the woman’s inability to establish her identity or produce a warrant heightened his fears for his safety, prompting him to leave the premises and drive to Parliament. Narrating the incident at a press briefing in Parliament shortly after the incident on September 23, 2026, he said the situation became particularly alarming amid recent reports of kidnappings, leading him to believe that he could be at risk. “It became obvious to me that it was one of the recent kidnappings that have been happening. It is true. I had to defend and protect myself for the benefit of the good people of Manhyia South, my children, and my whole family,” he said. Baffour Awuah said he initially told the woman he would follow her, but she allegedly insisted on forcibly taking him into a vehicle. Tensions escalate as EOCO officers attempt to arrest NPP MP and lawyer He said when he asked her to provide evidence that she was an EOCO official, she was unable to do so. “I told her, ‘Go, I will follow you,’ but she said she would forcibly take me into their vehicle. At that point, she could not produce any evidence that she was indeed from EOCO,” he stated. The MP said he subsequently drove to Parliament, where he sought the support of his colleagues and continued with scheduled committee work. He explained that he needed to get to a place where he felt safe, particularly because he also had responsibilities to protect the interests of his client. “So, from there, I had to drive to Parliament because I was also required to do committee work in Parliament.
