Veteran broadcaster and actor Kwame Dzokoto has recounted how First Lady Lordina Mahama intervened when he was battling health complications and helped secure support from business mogul Ibrahim Mahama for his treatment abroad.
According to Kwame Dzokoto, it was Lordina Mahama who first became aware of his health challenges when he was dealing with blood pressure-related complications and other heart-related conditions.
He said the First Lady subsequently contacted Ibrahim Mahama and pressured him to assist with his medical treatment, resulting in the businessman taking him abroad for surgery.
Speaking to media personality Blakk Rasta, Kwame Dzokoto said the intervention has helped him recover and that he is currently in good health.
“I was battling with BP related to the heart and all sorts of things, but by his grace, the First Lady got to know of it, and then she pressured Ibrahim Mahama. He took me outside for the surgery and all. In fact, I am healthy and doing well,” he said.
The veteran broadcaster and actor expressed his appreciation to the Mahama family for the support he received, stressing that their philanthropic efforts should be recognised separately from their political activities.

“I’m proud of the Mahama family. Their political side is there but then when it comes to serving humanity, if we have about eight people who decide to take charge to help people in their philanthropic way, I think the world will be a lovely place to live,” Dzokoto noted.
Kwame Dzokoto also addressed a viral photograph that sparked concerns about his health after he appeared visibly bloated.
The actor explained that the condition seen in the photograph was not the result of a serious underlying illness, contrary to concerns raised by some members of the public.
He said he had stopped taking sugar and had switched to honey as an alternative. However, he later discovered that the honey he had purchased had been mixed with caramel sugar.
According to him, consuming the product had a temporary effect on his body, causing him to swell. He said the condition subsided after he stopped taking the honey.
“That picture was exaggerated, and that was it. But naturally I’m fine,” he said.
Kwame Dzokoto further disclosed that he played a role in the formulation of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Tourism, Arts and Culture manifesto.
Despite his contribution to the party’s policy document, he said he has not received any formal appointment or position from the NDC government.
He also revealed that he had expressed interest in becoming the District Chief Executive (DCE) for his area but was eventually passed over without being given an explanation.
