Resurfaced EOCO letter explains why Manhyia South MP was being investigated
There has been a resurfaced document hours after a failed attempt to arrest the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, outside the Accra High Court, with a seven-month-old letter from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) shedding more light on why he was invited for investigations.
The letter, dated February 10, 2026, was signed by EOCO’s Acting Deputy Executive Director/Operations, Benjamin Ndego, and addressed to Baffour Awuah in his capacity as Senior Partner of his law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah and Partners.
In the letter, EOCO invited Baffour Awuah to appear before the Office under Section 19 of the Economic and Organised Crime Office Act, 2010 (Act 804).
Benjamin Ndego stated that EOCO was investigating alleged financial irregularities at SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited and indicated that the MP’s input into the matter was considered important to the investigation.
The letter further directed Baffour Awuah to report to the Executive Director or his representative on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 10:00am at EOCO’s Head Office in Accra to assist with the investigations.
EOCO to prosecute two persons for aiding Manhyia South MP’s escape from arrest
“This Office is investigating allegations of financial irregularities at SIC LIFE SAVINGS & LOANS COMPANY LIMITED and your input into the matter is of immense importance. In view of that, you are kindly requested to report to the Executive Director or his representative on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 10:00am at EOCO, Head Office, Accra to assist with the investigations,” the resurfaced statement read.
The document has emerged hours after EOCO officers reportedly attempted to arrest the Manhyia South MP outside the Accra High Court on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
According to EOCO, its officers attempted to effect the arrest but discontinued the operation after the situation escalated and they assessed that proceeding further could endanger members of the public.
The Office further said that following the incident, Baffour Awuah proceeded to Parliament to seek sanctuary, despite the House currently being on recess.
The MP, however, has given a different account of the attempted arrest. Baffour Awuah said the woman who approached him outside the court did not identify herself or present an arrest warrant.
He explained that he drove away from the scene because he feared for his safety.
