Jabari urges NDC leadership to support grassroots members
The NDC branch chairman for Ireland City and aspiring Constituency Chairman of the NDC in the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency, Solomon Jabari, has cautioned the party’s leadership against neglecting the welfare and economic well-being of grassroots members after securing political power.
According to him, the commitment and sacrifices of grassroots members, particularly during elections, play a critical role in the party’s electoral successes and must therefore be matched with meaningful opportunities to improve their livelihoods.
He appealed to the party’s leadership to adopt sustainable measures aimed at supporting grassroots members and recognising their contributions to the party’s electoral successes.
Jabari made the call at Twedie in the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency during the official launch of the “Fund Me Go” Business Support and Empowerment Programme, an initiative introduced in collaboration with corporate bodies to provide economic support to selected party members across various branches of the constituency.
The programme seeks to provide practical assistance to beneficiaries, including women, men and young people, through various forms of business and livelihood support.
Under the initiative, women interested in expanding their businesses are expected to benefit from flexible, low-interest loan facilities, while men and young people will have access to work-and-pay packages for tricycles and Aboboyaa to enable them to establish or expand their income-generating activities.
Tailors will also receive support in the form of sewing machines to strengthen their businesses, increase their productivity and improve their economic independence.
Speaking to journalists after the launch, Jabari explained that the initiative was conceived in response to concerns raised by some grassroots members about the limited economic opportunities available to them despite their continued commitment and contribution to the NDC.
He said the programme was designed to offer a practical intervention that would enable party members to become economically self-reliant rather than depend solely on political positions or government appointments.
“Our grassroots members work tirelessly for the party, especially during elections. We must therefore think about their welfare and create opportunities that can help them improve their livelihoods,” Jabari stated.
He also urged the party’s leadership to adopt sustainable measures to support grassroots members and recognise their contributions to the party’s electoral successes.
Jabari urged beneficiaries of the programme to approach the opportunity with seriousness, discipline and commitment, stressing that the sustainability of the initiative would depend partly on beneficiaries using the support productively.
The Deputy Women’s Organiser of the constituency, Barikisu Musah, commended Jabari and his team for introducing the initiative, describing it as a practical opportunity to support party members economically.
She expressed the hope that beneficiaries would use the assistance responsibly to expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
Musah further urged beneficiaries to demonstrate commitment and accountability by investing the support in productive ventures, adding that the opportunity should serve as a stepping stone towards greater economic independence.
Some branch executives who attended the programme expressed appreciation to Jabari and the programme’s collaborators for the initiative.
They said the intervention had the potential to help address some of the economic challenges confronting party members and expressed their readiness to make productive use of the opportunities available to them.
The executives also called for the programme to be sustained and expanded to cover more deserving members across the various branches within the constituency.
The launch of the “Fund Me Go” Business Support and Empowerment Programme represents an effort by Jabari and his collaborators to link grassroots political participation with economic empowerment, with beneficiaries expected to use the support to build sustainable livelihoods.
