It seems you’ve not overcome your dislike for Akufo-Addo – Dr Kojo Opoku chides Arthur Kennedy

Leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Razak Kojo Opoku, has shared a cryptic social media post directed at former presidential aspirant Dr Kobina Arthur Kennedy over his persistent attacks on former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. In the post, Dr Kojo Opoku subtly criticised Dr Arthur Kennedy for suggesting that Nana Akufo-Addo should be dismissed from the party following its defeat in the 2024 elections. He stated that the party cannot base such a decision on Dr Arthur Kennedy’s personal and emotional resentment towards Nana Akufo-Addo and questioned why Dr Arthur Kennedy continues to harbour such resentment. “NPP should sideline Nana Akufo-Addo simply because you don’t like him? It has been 17 years since the publication of the book Chasing the Elephant into the Bush, yet it seems you have still not been able to overcome your personal dislike for Nana Akufo-Addo.” He noted that the only way the NPP could banish the former president from the party would be if it were also prepared to abandon initiatives such as Free SHS in its campaign for the 2028 elections. Dr Opoku urged Dr Arthur Kennedy to follow the example of former party chairman Paul Afoko and former General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, both of whom resolved their differences with Nana Akufo-Addo after earlier periods of tension. “NPP can only sideline Nana Akufo-Addo if the Party is prepared to sideline Free SHS and the other positive achievements associated with his government. Seventeen years of dislike is too much. Even Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong let go of their differences with Nana Akufo-Addo,” he wrote. His comments come on the back of the latest attack by Dr Arthur Kennedy on Nana Akufo-Addo. Speaking in an interview on TV3’s The Keypoint on Monday, October 12, 2026, Dr Arthur Kennedy said the NPP needed to focus on addressing the concerns of voters rather than prioritising security arrangements ahead of the 2028 general election. “My big point is that the NPP did not lose 2024 because they didn't have enough Metro men. The fact of the matter is that they didn't have enough votes because they spent eight years governing badly and people were unhappy,” he said. He noted that about 1.25 million NPP supporters voted for President John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 election, describing the development as a major concern the party must address. “The important point Musa Dankwa is citing is that there are 1.25 million or so NPP members who went into the polling booths and decided to vote for John Mahama. It had never happened before,” he stated.
