CAF increases annual funding to Ghana FA to $700,000 in major financial boost

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a 33% increase in annual financial support to its 54 member associations, raising their allocation to up to $700,000. The decision, announced by CAF President Patrice Motsepe, represents a significant increase from the previous annual subvention of $525,000 and could provide the Ghana Football Association (GFA) with additional resources to support football development. Under the revised structure, CAF’s annual funding for member associations has risen from $200,000 in 2021 to $400,000, then $525,000, and now up to $700,000. The latest allocation represents a 250% increase compared with the 2021 figure. CAF said the additional support is intended to help member associations strengthen their football development structures, invest in youth and women’s football, improve administration and governance, and create sustainable opportunities for players, coaches and referees. The increase also extends to CAF’s zonal unions, whose annual subvention will rise by 20%, from $750,000 to $900,000. The African Clubs Association will also receive an increased allocation of $500,000, up from $400,000. For the GFA, the increased funding presents an opportunity to strengthen its development programmes and administrative structures. How effectively the additional resources translate into tangible improvements in Ghanaian football will be key to assessing the impact of the increased support. Motsepe and the CAF Executive Committee say the revised allocations form part of their broader commitment to making football across Africa’s 54 member associations more competitive and financially sustainable.
